Like its winged namesake, the Nike Mayfly was intended to live for one day only – race day. In the early 2000s when the model was in its sample stage it was known as the Marathon Racer. Initial prototypes are said to have been mocked up with materials found on FedEx postal packaging, designed to retain a certain level of strength and stay waterproof to a degree - maybe Tyvek? Before the model released it was passed over to the brains in marketing who devised a metaphorical moniker that referenced its disposable nature. The Mayfly was released on and off for around 10 years, throughout that decade Nike experimented with the upper print application on a number of occasions, the weirdest perhaps being the Union Jack pair. It was only on one occasion where a pre-existing Nike model influenced the print; the Mayfly TN, which released in 4 colourways: Pink, Blue, Volt and the Green pictured. All of which featured patent toe, heel and tongue. Super rare, very cool. Good condition. See policies before purchase.
