Upon release the Ovolo may have turned heads for all the wrong reasons, however in recent years, this silhouette has been heralded as one that was way ahead of its time. Back in 2004 and 2005 when Nike were releasing both low and mid iterations of the Ovolo, most ended up in outlets or TK Maxx. They were designed as a premium walking shoe, with a retail of £130, that was supposed to 'enhance the walking experience'. The Ovolo's heel is suspended like a hammock by a continuous S-shaped curve that stretches from the mid-foot and wraps up around the back of the heel. This external structure counter-controls the foot and stabilizes it without compromising freedom of movement. It literally ‘hugs’ the heel and provides the wearer with a custom fit. Definitely one of the weirder technologies from Nike, but we love it. This pair features a premium tumbled leather upper with contrast red laces.
