This model, from the Bowerman series, is named after the Hayward running track at Oregon State University, where Nike was founded. The origins of its design come from a drawing by Steve Prefontaine, one of Nike’s earliest athletes from the 70’s, of what his ‘dream running shoe’ would look like. Prefontaine was a record breaking runner at the time who unfortunately died in a car crash just before the 1976 olympics. This shoe features some really cool fabrics, including a contrast open mesh on the tongue and shiny, patent eyestays. There are a lot of details on this pair including the quote ‘pre lives’ on the insole. A great bit of Nike history! Very rare, and very good condition. See policies before purchase.
